BioBlu™27 is an alloy developed by combining, 65 percent cobalt, 29 percent chromium, and 6 percent molybdenum. BioBlu™27 is a non-magnetic cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy, whose qualities are high strength, coupled with wear and corrosion resistance. The metallurgists at Carpenter Technology coined the name BioBlu™ 27. ‘Bio' refers to the biocompatibility of the alloy, which can be used in medical applications such as prosthetics, and ‘Blu' refers to the cobalt in the alloy. The number 27 represents the number, on the Periodic Table for cobalt.
